UR16e collaborative robot for advanced teaching and research laboratories

The Universal Robots UR16e combines a 16 kg payload with a compact 900 mm reach, making it particularly useful in laboratory applications involving heavier tools, larger workpieces or more complex end-of-arm equipment without requiring an extensive robot working envelope. For universities and technical schools, this provides an opportunity to create laboratory systems that reproduce demanding industrial automation tasks within a relatively compact workstation.

Higher payload for more demanding experiments

The UR16e makes it possible to work with heavier tooling and payloads, opening additional possibilities for experiments involving machine tending, material handling, assembly, quality inspection, dispensing and surface-processing tasks.

This cobot may be used in different sceraios such as:

  • Robot motion programming and coordinate systems
Creating motion sequences, defining waypoints and reference frames, and configuring the tool centre point (TCP).
  • Pick-and-place and gripper operation
Programming object handling tasks using electric or pneumatic robotic grippers.
  • Palletising, sorting and production-process handling
Creating placement patterns, operating multiple work positions and reproducing typical industrial process sequences.
  • Force control and interaction with the environment
Performing tasks that require controlled contact, pressure or tool motion along a surface.
  • Grinding and polishing
  • Welding
  • Collaborative application safety
Setting up limits of workspace, force, speed and analysis of cobot behaviour around human operator.

Built-in safety technologies, including force and collision detection features, are a key component of the UR16e platform. However, in a practical setup, the ability to operate without additional safety fencing depends on the configuration of the entire system and the risk assessment performed.
